The Minister of Infrastructure, Hon. Crossley Tatui extended his appreciation to the Australian and New Zealand Governments, saying, “The construction of this new power station is a vital piece of infrastructure for Niue’s development and well-being. This achievement would not have been possible without the support of our regional partners.”
Working with Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) and the Niuean Government, Vector PowerSmart designed and built a sustainable generation plant and energy management system for the island, using new solar and battery technology. The 600kW of solar technology has produced 320,000kWh of electricity in the six months since 1 January 2019.
This represents the culmination of years of work from Niue Power Corporation (NPC) staff, local and overseas contractors, and our development partners. Australia and New Zealand funding assistance in particular has been instrumental in the procurement of new generators, transformers, switchboard and construction of a new building to house these.
